About Us

A small studio, a big world

Tallowvale Studios is an independent game studio. Scale isn't the goal here. We just want a world that holds together, down to the smallest door plaque in the smallest town.

Meet the Founder

About me

Alexander, founder of Tallowvale Studios

Hi, I'm Alexander, the person behind Tallowvale Studios.

Tallowvale Studios is a small, independent one-man game studio from the Netherlands, founded in 2026. And when I say one-man studio, I really mean it. I come up with all the ideas, build the worlds, write the stories and quests, design the gameplay, and somehow try to make everything fit together in the end.

I've been into games for as long as I can remember. I've always loved games that give you a world you actually want to explore, especially RPGs. Discovering new places, finding secrets, meeting interesting characters and getting completely lost in another world for a while is what makes a game special to me.

For a long time, I was simply the person playing those worlds. My personal favorite is The Elder Scrolls series. Eventually I started wondering what it would be like to create one myself. I had plenty of ideas, but game development always seemed like something that required a huge amount of technical knowledge and experience.

That changed when I finally decided to just give it a try.

What started as experimenting and learning quickly became a much bigger hobby than I expected. I discovered that I really enjoyed creating maps, characters, creatures, quests and all the little details that make a fictional world feel alive. Seeing something that started as a simple idea actually become playable was incredibly satisfying.

That first serious project became Echoes of Verdania, a 2D pixel-art fantasy RPG. As the game continued to grow, I wanted to give the project, and hopefully future projects, a proper home. That's ultimately why I founded Tallowvale Studios in 2026.

I don't have a traditional background in game development. Most of what I do is self-taught, and I'm still learning new things all the time. That's actually part of what makes this so much fun for me. AI helps me a lot with learning about game development and assists me with certain designs for the games I create.

Outside of game development, I'm into Dungeons & Dragons, Minecraft, collecting Steelbooks, photography, cars and motorcycles. I've always enjoyed hobbies where there is something to create, discover, collect or tinker with, which probably explains why making my own RPG eventually felt so natural.

Looking ahead, Tallowvale Studios will mainly focus on 2D pixel-art video games, particularly RPGs and fantasy adventures. I have no ambition to build enormous AAA games. I'd much rather create smaller games with personality, interesting worlds, plenty of exploration, and those little details that make you want to see what's around the next corner.

For now, Tallowvale Studios is just me, one person learning how to make the kind of games I would love to play myself.

Hopefully, Echoes of Verdania is only the first of many. Welcome to Tallowvale Studios.

Greetings,
Alexander

Why we're doing this

Tallowvale Studios started with a simple idea: a world that got broken into three pieces, and the people who now have to live in whichever piece they landed in. Everything since then grew out of taking that idea seriously: the towns, the creatures, the crafting systems, the ninety-one people with their own names and their own version of events.

We'd rather ship a smaller game that's consistent everywhere you look than a bigger one that falls apart under questions. If a character mentions their cousin in another town, that cousin exists, has a name, and remembers something too.

How we work

Echoes of Verdania is built and maintained as a single, tightly-scoped project rather than a sprawling one. New systems like crafting, farming, quests and creature Resonance are added deliberately, and existing lore is checked against a living character bible before anything ships, so nothing quietly contradicts itself later.

We favour handcrafted content over procedural filler. If it's in the game, someone decided it should be there.

What We Care About

Our approach

Consistency over scale

Three shards, one shared history. We'd rather keep the world small and correct than large and full of holes.

Systems that respect your time

Crafting, farming and quests are built to be satisfying on their own terms, not padding between story beats.

Made by hand

Maps, dialogue and characters are placed deliberately. Nothing in Echoes of Verdania is there by accident.
